A biopic of the 'Ice, Ice Baby' singer is currently in development with the actor Dave Franco set to play the lead role. There has been a flurry of musical biopics over the past several years, notably Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, depicting the lives of Freddie Mercury and Elton John respectively, and it seems like that trend is set to continue with the 90s rapper Vanilla Ice.

Dave Franco, younger brother of James Franco and a talented actor and Hollywood star in his own right, will be taking on an ambitious role of Vanilla Ice in the new movie. Franco, apparently, is excited to take on the role, and told Insider that he’s already spent a lot of time talking to Vanilla Ice (whose real name is Rob Van Winkle) to get to know him, and be able to play the role, and to do it with honesty, and not parody.

“Rob is such a sweet and intelligent guy,” Franco said and noted that he had been a great ally in getting details about his life correct and giving Franco exclusive access to what might not be public about his life. “Just talking to him, I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role.”

No stranger to films based on relatively obscure 80s/90s cult figures, Dave Franco starred alongside his brother James Franco in The Disaster Artist (2017), the film portraying the life of Tommy Wiseau. "With that movie, people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was - that's the tone we want for this one as well," Dave Franco told Insider.

"The project is inching closer and closer to pre-production" as confirmed by Dave Franco. The film is titled 'To The Extreme' and the release date for the biopic is yet to be released.
