It was recently announced that a fifth Predator movie is on the way. 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) is bringing back the Predator franchise. According to Deadline, it’s brought on director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) to direct a new installment of the series, with a script from Patrick Aison.

However, Trachtenberg revealed that this is not how the project was supposed to be unveiled.

"This was meant to be a surprise," Trachtenberg wrote on Twitter in response to news about the movie's existence. "Been working on this for almost 4 years now. I am very sad that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen. It's a bummer. But also...YAY!"

Details on the film's plot remain under wraps. However, it is reported that the new Predator movie will not tie back to 2018's The Predator, which was directed by Shane Black. This new installment will also be the first to be produced under Disney, which purchased Predator distributor 20th Century Fox in 2019.

The Predator franchise has existed for over three decades, kicking off with Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987. Subsequent entries in the franchise have included a trio of sequels and a pair of crossovers with Alien in the form of the Alien vs. Predator movies. The most recent Predator entry, The Predator, grossed $160.5 million worldwide.

No release date has been set for Trachtenberg's untitled Predator movie.
